One of the exciting changes to Mighty Metres 2011 was the introduction of the IAAF Kids Athletics programme. Having practiced hard during PE lessons all term, the kids were excited to test their skills in some competition.
They were not disappointed. Our Mighty Metres coaches organised a fun and exciting interclass competition in four our Mighty Metres schools. This really got the excitement going between the classes, to see who is going to be the best in their grade. The kids and the teachers could not wait for their day of Kids athletics to take place. Within four days, 800 kids experienced this enjoyable and fun competitive sport.
The principals and teachers would want us to do this more regularly at the schools because it brings back the atmosphere of school sports. This is also a build up for much bigger things to come in the future and they are fully behind the development of all the kids. Kids athletics is definitely ad “Mass participation “ sport.
“The kids really enjoy the fun activities and to see them begin happy made me happy, because it is all about bringing change in the schools and communities, so that there can be “Hope” and a “Future”for our Children”
- Charles Stotenkamp, Mighty Metres Head Coach
